A library card is needed to check out materials. See the Application Procedure below on how to get a library card.

If you have an item out and would like to keep it longer, it may be renewed most of the time. See the Renewal procedure below to find more details.

If the item you want is checked out or you would like to reserve an item, you can place a hold. See the Hold Procedure below for details.

If you would like to make a donation to the library please read the Donation Procedure below. The Donation Procedure gives the current status of accepted donations.

Application Procedure

· You must fill out a Library Card application in person.

· You must be at least 16 years of age.

· You must present identification and proof of current residence in the state of Texas, such as your driver’s license, electric bill, water bill, car insurance, etc.

· You may add your spouse and other family members for whom you are financially responsible on your Library Card account application.

· YOU are financially responsible for all materials, fines or charges on your Library Card Account (all cards on your application.)

· The library reserves the right to obtain from you materials, fines or charges for which you are financially responsible.

· The Library reserves the right to revoke Library Card privileges at any time.

Renewal Procedure
· You can renew items in person or by calling 214-975-0430. Please have your library card number handy.

· Renew your items using your library card barcode number and PIN (Personal Identification Number) in the electronic library catalog. From the library catalog, enter your User ID (library card barcode number) and PIN in the boxes at the top of the page. Then click “Login to the e-library OPAC” button. Then click “My Account” and “Renew My Materials.” Select the materials you want to renew and click the “Renew Selected Items” button.

Items can be renewed up to two times. If another person places a hold on an item you have borrowed, that item cannot be renewed and the item needs to be returned to the library as soon as possible. Once you renew an item, you have three weeks from the date you renewed, NOT the original due date.

Hold Procedure
If an item is checked out you may place a hold to reserve that item. When the item is returned, the library will contact you and hold the item under your name for 7 days.

· Place your own holds by using your library card barcode number and PIN (Personal Identification Number) in the electronic library catalog. From the library catalog, select the item. When the item details screen is displayed window on the left side of the screen show a list of options. Select “place hold”. Then enter your user id (your library card number) and your PIN. Then click the place hold button.

· While in the library, ask library staff at the Information Desk to place holds for you.

· Call 214-975-0430 during library hours and library staff will place holds for you.

If you want to pick up an available item the same day as you place the hold, call the library at 214-975-0430 and staff will pull the item from the shelf for you. This can save you an unnecessary trip should the item actually end up being unavailable.
