The Town of Little Elm's water system is divided into two separate systems, the East System and the West System. The West System consists of well water that is delivered to residents on the west side of Lake Lewisville. The East System consists of surface water that is purchased from North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) and is delivered to residents east of Lake Lewisville.

In September 2007, the Town of Little Elm, Texas engaged Economists.com to prepare a water and waste water rate study and long-term financial plan. The Water and Waste Water Rate study has been completed and the new rates were approved for Little Elm Residents. Questions please contact Doug Peach, Director of Public Works at (214) 975-0471.

The North Texas Municipal Water District just recently notified the Town of Little Elm of a Winter algal bloom.  

The NTMWD has confirmed that a winter algal bloom is occurring in Lavon Lake. Taste and odor changes in treated drinking water caused by blooms may be detected by your consumers who are more sensitive to these changes. The taste and odor is a palatability issue only. The palatability change that results from a naturally occurring algal bloom does not alter the quality of the water provided to the cities and the communities served by NTMWD. The water supply remains safe for use with no health risks created by these events.
