Community Services consists of any and all programs designed to support and inform the community. It is run by one Sergeant, with the support of officers on an as-needed and as-available basis.
Among other things, this Division works directly with the Chamber of Commerce in welcoming new businesses, and encouraging them to join the department's free Business Watch program. Further, this Division works closely with various Town committees in the planning and implementation of annual events hosted by the Town, such as AutumnFest, July Jubilee, Holidaze and similar functions.
This Division works closely with the community and the school district in responding to requests for programs and presentations on topics ranging from gang awareness, drug abuse awareness, alcohol abuse programs, identity theft, personal safety and much more. In addition to the regular scheduling of presentations on these topics, this Division responds to specific requests for any law-enforcement related topic.
The Community Services Division should not be confused with the role of community service work, wherein persons are sentenced by a court to serve time in the community. Although called the same thing, this Division does not administer this program, nor does the department have a program to administer these court assignments. The school district, the Town library and the parks department, from time to time, can assist individuals in completing community service hours.
