Firefighter / EMT (18-month Paramedic Requirement)

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Firefighter Certification: 
    • must currently possess Texas Commission on Fire Protection Firefighter certification, or
    • be enrolled and provide a letter of good standing  from a Commissioned approved Fire Academy (employment cannot be offered until completion of the academy and certification is obtained)
  • Emergency Medical Certification (in order of preference)
    • certification from Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) as a EMT-Paramedic (EMT-P), 
    • currently enrolled in in an TDSHS approved EMT-P program, or
    • certification from TDSHS as an EMT. Obtaining of EMT-P is required within 18 months of hire date.


  • Submit Application
  • Schedule physical agility test (you will be contacted after application review approval)
  • Completion of Background Packet and Polygraph Statement (see list of required documents below)
  • Panel Interview
  • Background Check
  • Conditional Job Offer
  • Psychological Examination
  • Physical and Drug Screening
  • Notification of Start Date

PAT Details

Test includes:
  • Aerial ladder climb
  • Extension ladder climb
  • Extension ladder removal
  • Charged hose drag
  • Stair climb with hose lift
  • Ventilation simulator
  • Equipment Carry
  • Firefighter Mannequin Drag

***Candidates must bring their completed Personal History Statement, Polygraph statement, and Physical Agility Waiver to their scheduled PAT***

  • Starting Salary for Firefighter/Paramedic up to $17.41 hourly

  • Legible copy of valid Birth Certificate
  • Legible copy of valid Marriage License
  • Legible copy of valid Divorce Decree(s)
  • Legible copy of valid High School Diploma
  • Legible copy of valid College Transcripts
  • Legible copy of valid College Degree
  • Legible copy of valid Graduate Equivalence Diploma (G.E.D.)
  • Any related topic certificates ( i.e. Haz-Mat, Fire, Rescue Related)
