Experienced Development Services Director added

LITTLE ELM (January 11, 2018) Following an extensive search for an experienced, multi-faceted professional to lead the Development Services Department, the Town of Little Elm has named Fred Gibbs to the position.  Gibbs assumed leadership of the department in late December.

The new director brings over 15 years’ experience to the position, a critically important post that includes engineering, planning and zoning, community integrity, building permits and safety, and GIS and mapping.  The crucial areas of Code Enforcement and building inspections are among the varied aspects of Town administration that fall within the Development Services Department.

Gibbs comes to Little Elm from the City of Corinth, where he was Director of Planning and Development for 11 years.  Before elevation to the directorship in Corinth, Gibbs was Planning Manager for almost three years, having been promoted from his initial post as Planner.

The Planning and Development Department which he headed in Corinth closely mirrors the Little Elm post, providing Gibbs the type of specific managerial experience in the areas he now leads in Little Elm.

The new director counts on additional experience in budget development and administration, and has extensive experience in applying for and securing grants for beautification programs and other municipal enhancement projects through his work with the Corinth Economic Development Corporation.  He also partnered with the Corinth EDC on a variety of other successful programs and projects.

His prior work with developing, refining and implementing comprehensive plans is particularly important as Little Elm continues to move toward reinforcing its position as a destination for local, regional, and statewide recreation, entertainment and retail activities, while polishing its growing identity as a preferred location for exceptional family lifestyle residence.

Town Manager Matt Mueller says Gibbs has the right mix of deep experience and innovative vision to help Little Elm meet its goals.  “Fred comes to us with impeccable credentials and the right set of skills to keep us moving in the right direction,” he said.  “His insights and out-of-the-box thinking are all the more important as we move toward complementing the Lakefront District with the kind of Town-wide development that benefits all residents.”

Gibbs graduated with a bachelor of science in Geography, Urban and Regional Planning from Texas State University, and is a member of the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association, the American Public Works Association, the Congress of New Urbanism, the American Planning Association, and the International City Managers Association.
